This Jasper Conran red wool suit is probably most known by Diana fans and collectors for being was worn in 1985 on a visit to Cirencester Police Station. Its boxy, trim cut jacket has shiny buttons down the front over a Jan Van Velden white shirt with turned up collar points, showing the white shirt cuffs and finished with a narrow black tie. It was worn print to that in 1984 to christen the Princess cruise ship, "Royal Princess" (think "Love Boat" brand,) where it was styled without a blouse, much more normal looking sheer black tights and a matching red beret.
The long, slim straight skirt has four kick pleats just below the knee, where it meets *very* red tights and accent black flats. The look is accessorized with a black clutch, black flats and a red felt boater hat.
It was a pretty look at the time, and unlike some of Diana’s other outfits from the period, isn’t hugely dated without the shirt and tie. It was copied as the last of the Danbury Mint Royal Wardrobe Collection and not included in the Commemorative edition in 1998, making it one of the rarer ones. I feel it suits that doll better than the FM doll due to the hairstyle and younger face.
I’m unaware of any FM replicas.
As an outfit for the FM vinyl doll, I'd like to see it include:
1. Skirt suit
2. White blouse with black tie
3. Hat and beret
4. Black shoes
5. Black clutch
6. Pearl earrings
7. Red tights and sheer black tights
