Lot 28 is a strapless Murray Arbeid gown in midnight blue silk tulle, lined with silk and embellished with silver diamanté stars scattered randomly all over a tightly fitted dropped waist bodice and wide skirt, flaring from the hips and falling to the floor. A very 80s favourite, it reached more than $48,000 at the Christie’s auction.
Diana had so many matching jewels, she switched them around with this, and even added fuchsia pink opera gloves for a contrast against the gown’s fabric night sky.
In these photos, we see her Omani swish choker with crescent earrings and her big sapphire and pearl halo cluster choker with the matching double drop sapphire halo clusters. She also wore the velvet ribbon mounted sapphire and diamond bracelet.
Replicas are from left top by: Nona Renn, Doris Lau, Anita Nagel, Mini-Mary
Bottom row from left: Alana Bennett, Bea Doll Boutique, Franklin Mint’s “Princess of Enchantment.”
