Lot 31 – Green Velvet Smoking Jacket Gown
This green double-breasted velvet column gown was described by its designer, Catherine Walker, as being inspired by the style of a man’s velvet smoking jacket. The buttons are extra large and help to balance the wide lapels and pointed collar.
The gown was worn privately, however Diana posed for a series of portraits by Mario Testino that appeared in Vanity Fair magazine to promote the auction, just months before her death. The gown raised more than $24,000 and is popular with replica makers.
Replicas are from left by: Stacey of S ‘n’ E, the late Joyce Stuchl, Betsy O’Donnell, Tommie Peacock, nonaalaska (eBay seller.)
As an outfit for the FM vinyl doll, I would be happy to see it include:
1. Gown
2. Green shoes
3. Green clutch bag
4. Pearl drop earrings
5. Diana’s emerald bracelet
