Lot 4 - The "Figaro" Dress

This cheeky little black and white Bellville-Sassoon cocktail dress was worn to a performance of Figaro. The bodice is black lace over white satin with white satin dropped Bardot collar and cuffs with an above-the-knee black velvet skirt.  The black lace top is embellished with sequins and the occasional diamanté accent scattered for effect and the white collar draws the eye with a centred black satin bow.  

Diana accessorized with black and white crystal costume earrings, probably from Butler & Wilson, black clutch and black satin pumps with black bows with centred crystal accents.

It raised almost $44,000 and was a Paris Match magazine contest prize. It has at times been lent to Kensington Palace for display with other Diana outfits in their fashion museum tribute.
