In 1997, Diana famously donated 79 of her ballgowns, cocktail dresses and occasion wear to be auctioned for charity. She actively participated in the marketing preparations by curating the gowns personally with an organiser, posing for new photos in some of the dresses and visiting the preview parties in London, then New York on the eve of the auction.
This shift dress was worn to the New York pre-view of Diana's dresses. Catherine Walker made this and a nearly identical dress in blue with white silver guipure roses worn to the other event in London. This dress has peach, pink & cream sequins sewn all over to accentuate the floral peach and grey print pattern. It was worn with champagne satin Jimmy Choo pumps, a thick gold link bracelet and big pearl and gold button earrings. Supposedly the story was the dresses were made to the same pattern, but this one has a deeper scoop on the back neckline.
Replica at left by Connie, Sweet Creations and her daughter, Jenny, who spent hours hand sewing and beading the dress in clear beads and iridescent sequins.
Amazing replicas by Jane Hornung, Sweet Creations, Alana Bennett, Axelle Marion, Tamara (probably Tommie P) and Betty Herr and (unknown.)
