This snazzy mannish cut Bruce Oldfield suit was worn in 1986 in Japan, where she toured an auto factory. After, it was also seen at UK events in Warwickshire within a month or two, where she opened a Victorian Rose Garden at Warwick Castle. (I've seen the garden but didn't know about the Diana connection.)
It's a flattering colour, but an odd fabric and a very peachy everything ensemble, even down to the shoes, clutch and hose. The peach trimmed beret in vanilla white, Chanel style heel/toe contrasts and the silk shell top are its saving grace from being overly 80s matchy matchy, The clutch is so matchy it disappears into the jacket in the photos. The skirt has a very long jacket and a very long hemline. It sort of has things going for it, then screws those up by trying a little too hard.
I haven't found any replicas of it, but this is one I like and would probably buy if executed well enough. The key points of interest would need to be the fabric (right colour/texture), the beret (shape/fabric/colour) and shoes (style/colour.) My guess is that many of the usual hat/suit suspects could handle this commission, given the ideal fabric. (Maybe a moire taffeta could stand in for the textured silk as peach is an unusual colour however bridal fabrics often feature shades of peach.)
And of course, the shoes. I think only S 'n' E Shoes could pull these off, however I don't have evidence in my archive that they took these on. Which leaves us with converting a pair of Blue Chanel suit tan pumps using bottles of coral and French white manicure nail polish.
As an outfit for the FM vinyl doll, I'd like to see it include:
1. Suit w/ white shell top
2. Beret
3. Pale peach hose
4. Peach Shoes w/vanilla toe caps and heels
5. Peach rectangular clutch bag
6. Gold link bracelet
7. Gold brushed button earrings
