Lot 69– Lilac Floral Halter Gown
Lot 69 is such a lovely gown and has been copied many times. It’s another Catherine Walker that raised over $25,000 and was donated to the NY Met Museum of Art. Diana wore this in Nigeria, and it became part of the Ashton Drake, “Diana: Her World in Fashion” mini-porcelain set (however the replica had enough changes as to make it unrecognizable, thus not really relevant here.
The gown is constructed of white silk chiffon printed with floral bunches in lilac and green. The fabric is gathered, layered and ruched up from the waist, then twisted up around the neck in a halter style similar way to Lot 62, however there are differences. The skirt is self-fabric, rather than a contrasting colour; the skirt cascades in a graceful ethereal flow to the ground, and has a sort of cape/train falling from the nape of the neck. It didn’t need a lot of jewelry and Diana added merely her amethyst double drop earrings and matching amethyst bead bracelet, plus a pair of white satin pumps and a white satin bag.
Replicas from top left by Unknown, Alana Bennett, Bea Doll Boutique, Mariana (France), Hisodoll. Bottom row from left: Georgia (?), the late Joyce Stuchl and the late Axelle Marion.
As an outfit for the FM vinyl doll, I would be happiest to see it include:
1. Gown
2. White satin shoes
3. White clutch bag
4. Amethyst drop earrings
5. Amethyst bracelet
