This early outfit was wildly popular with photographers, probably due to the charming plumed hat which became rather a trademark for Diana during the early years. The coat is in a sturdy wool and worn over frilly, high-necked pie-crust blouse, another of Diana’s early trademarks.
It hasn’t been copied much, not sure why. Diana wore it several different ways, so I’m wishlisting the sets of accessories. On some occasions, it was worn unbuttoned with a sash tie holding it closed. The accessories included a pie-crust frilled neck blouse, the ostrich feathered hat (of which I’m very fond,) a black clutch and black pumps. On other occasions, it was made smarter by removing the tie sash, doing up the double-breasted buttons and topped with a Cossack shaped matching hat edged in rust-brown, with a matching rust-brown leather clutch and knee-high boots.
Replicas at top left by AlanaB (ebay seller) and Nona Renn (nonaalaska). Bottom left by Jody Brittain. Second hat on bottom also by Nona.
