This Catherine Walker skirt suit has a lot of structure and detail. It's fun and business-like. The day she wore it at left was so windy, she nearly lost her hat and it's obvious the skirt isn't weighted. It's yet another where there might be a question of whether it's navy or black.
There is a kind of cheerleader vibe from the just to the knee pleated winter white skirt hemmed in a navy band, a navy jacket with echoes of the band picked up down the front to the jacket hem and just above the wrists. Diana has a matching collarless shell top underneath that blends into the jacket as if it were all one piece.
The navy and winter white straw hat features an oval, navy crown, a winter white brim with the same kind of navy edging as the skirt. The crown is wide navy woven straw edged with matching grosgrain ribbon. The brim is very wide and also oval. This one needs care to get the dimensions right. (Use a measurement of Diana's finger's to the knuckle for the depth of the crown, and just over the edge of her shoulders for the breadth of the brim.
There are no lapels on the jacket which is embellished with three brass buttons down the front and on each cuff (where the "top" one is centred in the white cuff band. It can only be seen if Diana lifts her arms. She wears what appear to be costume fat drop pearl earrings and if you check carefully, her favourite gold watch peeps out from under a sleeve.
It's likely the perceived complexity of this put replica makers off even an attempt for a long time, then several got busy. The hat is a tricky, unusual shape and the shape and proportions The shoes are the standard FM navy/black pumps. Her handbag is a shoulder bag with narrow gold chain, and her most interesting and my favourite accessory is the briefcase she carries down the airstairs.*
As an outfit for the FM vinyl doll, I'd like to see it include:
1. Jacket/Skirt/Shell top
2. Hat
3. Blue-Black shoes
4. Chain shoulder bag
5. Pearls
6. Pearl earrings
Four replicas from left: Mariana from France, Mini-mary AlanaB, and S 'n' E.
*a few years ago, a company made attache shaped business card cases that were perfect miniatures for Diana.
