Another cute but deceptively simple Catherine Walker dress was copied by several stars after Diana wore it. The photo makes it difficult to see, but the dress is a golden cream satin and is patterned all over with golden and cream beads and sequins set in a criss-cross design that form diamonds. This dress was on display at Althorp where the lighting gave a good view of the workmanship in the dress and fabric. There is cream braid trim around the sleeve holes and jewel neckline.
It was worn to the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow to see "Les Sylphides," and was styled with cream Jimmy Choo arch strap satin pumps and possibly her oval lace evening clutch (white lace FM halter gown) and large gold pearl drop hoop earrings.
It was also worn in 1996 to the Royal Ballet performance in London of "Alice in Wonderland," on which occasion she substituted her champagne strappy Jimmy Choos, carried a champagne taupe satin evening bag and added her watch and engagement ring. She matched the overall bling with the gold Tahitian pearl drop hoop earrings.
As tricky as all that might be to translate to doll size, these nine replicas pull it off. From left by Nona Renn, Axelle Marion, Arani Design, Alana Bennett, Bea Doll Boutique, Mariana (France), and one sold by TrekVisual (maker unknown, Mini-mary, Bea Doll Boutique.
Most use confetti dot gold foil, but some are actually beaded while others rely on the fabric pattern to provide the illusion of beading. Nice work, ladies.
As an outfit for the FM vinyl doll, I'd like to see it include:
1. Dress
2. Cream strappy shoes
3. Satin evening purse
4. Earrings
5. Watch
