Salient Features
Members are herbs, shrubs or small trees.
Leaves simple or pinnatisect, or palmatisect, in spirals or opposite.
Flowers in head-like cymes, typically 5-merous synsepalous and sympetalous.
Stamens 5, epipetalous, alternipetalous.
Gynoecium usually of 3 united carpels, ovary superior, locules as many as carpels, ovules in axile placentation.
Fruit a loculicidal capsule.

Common Characteristics: Erect annual herbs. Upper leaves alternate, lower leves opposite, all sessile, ovate- lanceolate. Inflorescence corymbose cyme. Flowers variously coloured.
Flowering period: December to May
