Characteristic Features:

Usually trees with sweet-smelling bark
Leaves spirally arranged, odd-pinnate, leaf bases swollen and elongated
Flower buds longer than broad, petals much longer than sepals
Staminal tube often present and its mouth is blocked by stigma
