The Independent project was where we reflected on everything that we had done over the year and then chose a project that we felt that we could improve on or really enjoyed and wanted to explore more. When first thinking about this project I wanted to do something big, possible another animal assemblage project. But when looking at the calendar I designed to do something that would go a little faster. When looking over the year I realized that I struggled during the self portraits unit. I felt that I didn't do the best that I could and so I also wanted to do something that had faces in it so I could improve on drawing people. I also really wanted to do more with the pure contour and patterns because I really enjoyed that project and liked the way it looked, so with the idea of drawing people tucked in the back of my head I began to draw a duck. My original idea was to have a pure contour duck with patterns all around it, as I was drawing I realized it didn't look like a duck. Once I realized it didn't look like a duck I decided to draw a person, I started off with a nose and turned it into an old man.
After I had the old man done I decided to add a tree, i'm not really sure why I decided to do this but I did. I drew this in fine point pen and then after when in with water color. After I created the first one I had time to make another so I created one that was somewhat the opposite. So I drew a young girl with flowers. I did this the same way as I did the old man. Started off with fine point pen and then added water color. For the girl I chose to add a darker background rather than a bright one. After I finished that project I decided to do a few blind contour faces, I made a bunch of them and they reminded me of balloons so I cut them out and used water color to make a sky, then went in with acrylic paint to add a bright white as the clouds. After this was done I cut out the blind contour faces and added them to the sky, the idea being that they looked like balloons. After I went in with water color to give the balloons some color.
I liked this project I liked the way it that we got to do what we wanted to basically no instruction and guidance. One thing that I found challenging was that we really didn't have a lot of time so I didn't get to focus on something that I wanted to do because I ended up not having a lot of time. Other than timing there was the problem that the project was so independent that I struggled to come up with ideas because I couldn't come up with an idea, this also caused issues with timing. I did like who this project was a nice relaxed one which was a nice way to end this years Foundations of Art.
