The objective of this project was to match the colors seen in the image to the colors on the paper. I chose to do this with the duck stamp project, I chose the Redhead duck as the duck in my image. The redhead duck is known for its deep rich red head.
This project was done with oil pastels, starting with the background colors to help give the drawing texture. Once I had the background colors filled in I when in and added the first duck. This one can be seen in the bottom left corner. I started by blending the colors seen in the reference photo and then etched away some of the pastel to help add depth. I used this to show the feathers and the highlights. To finish the first duck I went in with acrylic paint to make the eyes pop.
Once finished with the first duck I added the grass and more texture to the water. After doing this I felt that the background was missing something so I added the tail end of another duck. Once finished with the ducks and background I went in and took away some of the pastel to help add depth. If I were to do this project again I would work on making the reflections of the water and the plants to make the whole image look more realistic.
