Sustained Investigation #15

Frogs

College

For this project I was inspired by the spring peepers, the frogs outside my house that call to each other in the spring. It's always a surprise when the peepers show up; it's the first sign of spring. So the other night when I heard them for the first I wanted to do something with them. The peepers have always been a huge part of my childhood so I felt it would be a good project to work with. I began thinking about how I could start this project, I wasnt really sure what to do so I just started, I started with drawing the frog and then the idea came into me to do multiple and make it a full image rather than just one frog. As I was thinking of my idea I realized that my frog was in the middle of the page, this is something that I have struggled with this year because I always start and then end up not having things in the right spot.

Realizing that I had my frog in the middle of the page I decided I needed to change things up, I wasnt sure what I wanted to do so I drew another frog. I really liked my frogs but couldnt figure out how to tie it all together, so I dropped the image for a bit and just started drawing, trying to get my thoughts moving. I came back to the image a few hours later and decided I wanted it to make it a college. I like working with college because I feel like I can try things and change it if I dont like it, rather than trashing one and making a new one. I started by looking at images that looked like the ground, then I wanted to add some sky pieces in to be the water. Once I had to the background done I worked on making my frog cut outs in.

Overall I liked this project, I thought it was super fun and I worked a lot on problem solving. moving forward I want to finger paint this image on a larger scale, the bell ringer from todays class really inspired me. I love the idea of finger painting and I think it will really help me because I feel like I have been getting a little stuck with my art lately, I have high hopes for my next project.
