Beautiful Oops

For this project we were instructed to take a ink spot on a piece of paper and change it into something a "Beautiful Oops". The paper I chose had three spots of ink that got smaller as the moved closer to the middle of the paper. The Subject of my ‘Beautiful Oops’ is three ink spots, they are set in the scene of a butterfly. The butterfly with the ink spots filing the wings sits on a flower in a field.

I started this piece off with the three ink spots, then I added a pencil outline, after that I filling in the rest with watercolor pencils. I chose to turn my ink spots into a butterfly because I started with thinking of them being some underwater fish but as I began to turn them into a fish it appears that a butterfly would fit the spots much better. Throughout my piece there are a few key techniques that make the piece what it is. One of those is the water color pencils, by using watercolor pencils rather than regular water color you are able to get closer and more fine cut lines but still achieving the flowing of water color itself.

I really enjoyed this project because it let me explore more with water color pencil which I not used a lot, I enjoyed working with the water color pencils and exploring different techniques. The meaning behind this piece is that even something that seem like a mistake (like a spot of ink) can turn into something interesting. Overall I really enjoyed this project and feel that I developed my skills using water color and water color pencil.
