Sustained Investigation #11

Pig

watercolor & colored pencil

11x8

Over the course of this year I feel like I have lost my inspiration for art, I have found myself un happy with almost all my work and uninspired to create anything. So I decided to take a step back from my inquiry questions and come up with a new one, and for this project I wanted to focus on childhood moments. As a kid I loved pigs, not really sure why; I had never seen a pig in real life or even seen a ton of pictures but I loved pigs. There was this book that I loved to read called "All Pigs are Beautiful" it wasn't a great book, it just had pictures of pigs. So for this project I wanted to do a pig.

I began this project by looking at the book that I liked as a kid, I looked at all the images in the book and started to get an idea about the kind of pig that I wanted to do, I decided on Gloucestershire Old Spot. Then I began planning out my image, I still wasn't feeling super inspired so I decided to keep things not super complicated so I would be able to finish it. I started out using colored pencils to outline the pig and add the detail, as I moved on I ended up changing the why my pig was standing, originally I wanted him laying down in a stall but I figured id put him outside. Once I had the pig done I moved on to the background, I didn't want anything fancy so I just added enough to not make him floating. Then I was about to call it down but I didn't feel like he was done, so I got the paints out and just started painting, I wanted to make him seem more alive. I didn't really have a plan when I started and I almost trashed it when I thought I had made to big of a paint mark, but I decided to just go with it and make those his spots.

Overall, I think this project was good for me, I am leaving this project a little more inspired and I think that I will look to change my inquiry question to something I am a little more inspired by. I liked my process in this, instead of just giving up and turning it in I tried to change him so I was more happy with him, I am excited to see where my next project takes me!
