An animal with a crocodile head, a pig body, and monkey feet.
colored pencil and pen
24x12
For this project I was given a whatchamaDRAWit card that had a random prompt on it, the prompt I got was; draw an animal with a crocodile head, a pig body, and monkey feet. I began by thinking of ways that I could bring in all these random animals into one image. I began by thinking about ways that I could do this. I started with a small sketch of this prompt. I decided to do two images because I wasn't really sure how I wanted to do this.
I began by drawing out the image on the left in pencil first, I wanted the crocodile head to be looking straight on. Once I had this all drawn out in pencil, I used a pen to go around the outside of the image just to give some depth to the lines. After this, I began to add some color. I wanted to use colored pencil but because these images were pretty big so I worked with shading in from the outside. I started with dark colors on the lines and then getting lighter as gets closer to the middle. I wanted to my creature to fill up most of the space on the page so I added the branch, I think this also helped to show that the feet were from a monkey and not some other kinda of feet. I also added the banana in, I did this last because I felt that I needed to put something there to fill and balance that side of the paper. I added the banana last which I wish I hadn't because I wanted to flop over the branch rather than just sit on top.
I really enjoy doing the whatchamaDRAWit prompts because I think that there a fun way of getting us to think about art in a creative way. If I were to do this project again I think that I was plan it out better, and try and put the creature in a different place on the page. Maybe one that was looking at it from an angle up or maybe an angle down, just a different way to look at the creature that would make the piece more interesting. Overall I liked this project and felt it was a good way to start thinking about the year in art.
