Eccentric Teapot

Eccentric teapot project

For my project I was inspired by fish and the old fashion fish markets. As a kid I would go fishing on my brothers lobster boat and I was always the one getting to shove the dead fish into the bag. Fish have always been a part of my childhood and I thought it would be a cool way to make a teapot that is a basket with fish flopping out of it.For the body of my teapot I wanted to do something that would hold the fish, I looked through lots of photos and decided to do an old fish market basket. The base of the teapot will be the basket. This will allow for the teapot to sit on a flat surface and not wobble. Having the whole teapot looking somewhat look like the image below. For the spout of my teapot I wanted to have it be something like a fish head flopping out of the basket. This image to the left isn’t exactly what I want but this is the best picture I could find. By having the spout be the fish flopping over the side of the basket it will make it so that it is a functional spout, being able to hold things in (because it won’t be to low and will be angled up) and still pour when needed. For the handle of my teapot I wanted to do kinda the same idea as the teapot spout from the slide before. But use the end of the fish rather than the front. By having the back end of the fish coming out of the basket it would allow for a secure handle. That would be easy to hold and also fit in with the theme while not being so flimsy. For the lid of my teapot I wanted to keep the theme of fish. So one thing that I thought of was having the top of the teapot be fish and having one fish’s back/fin sticking out and that would be the lid of the teapot. This would allow for the lid to be lifted off in a way that would be easy and effective. For the color of my teapot I wanted to have two different colors schemes going on. One for the fish, using dark/light blue and white. Using these colors I want to create the colors of the fish. By blending the colors together. This color scheme will make it so that each fish can be a little different but still look like a fish and fit in with the theme of the eccentric teapot. The second color scheme I wanted to use was a set of lighter brown colors for the basket. I wanted to use these colors to create the basket, this would make the basket look detailed and like it has depth. I wanted to use the lighter set of brown colors because I wanted to have the whole teapot to be a lighter colored teapot. I was inspired by the old Japanese paintings that are super light and the color is deep and rich in select places but the overall painting is super light. Overall I really enjoyed this project, I thought it was a super fun and would have been super cool to make into actually clay.
