Meagan Keiffer

Meagan Kieffer is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she graduated in 1999 with a bachelor in fine arts and ceramics and began working at an art studio as a ceramics instructor in Tennessee. Meagan has worked in theTennessee State Museum, Archie Bray Foundation Permanent Collection, Helena Public Schools Fine Art Collection, Holter Museum of Art Permanent Collection, along with a Private Collections in Nebraska, Montana, and Tennessee. Meagan grew up on a small ranch in South Dakota, she moved away from the Ranch in her adult years, and her passion for horses is shown through her work. Meagan is inspired by the movement and grace of animals in nature. She says “I am drawn to formal aspects of working figuratively — bone structure, muscle tones, folds of skin or fat – but it’s the act itself, the physical process of making, that inspires me most.” She enjoys working with clay because it allows her to work and get the perfect proportions over time. Through her work she is able to show the nonverbal communication between the horses and humans and the long standing importance horses have had in society. Meagan works with more hand based work, this allows her to get the details she wants. She mainly works with wood and clay carving the things into the materials. She enjoys working with harder materials that allow her to build her word through pulling away. I chose Meagan because I liked the way she used clay and wood to show horses. I felt that she did a good job showing the movement of horses.
