Donate Life
8 1/2 x11This project follows the rules of the donate life competition that is set in Maine. The guide lines being the image must display a positive theme with the words "Organ and Tissue Donation" on it. This is to support the idea of becoming an organ donor to teens as they begin to get their drivers licenses. For this project I wanted my positive message to be about what you can do as an organ donor that would help continue someone else's life. I came up with a bunch of ideas and my favorite was "Pass on the light with organ and tissue donation"
With this idea in mind I wanted to have the lights be the brightest thing and have it seem like someone was handing it to someone else. So I began with using black paper and colored pencils to get the shape of the lights and the shading. Then I used oil pens to had highlights and make things brighter and to draw the person handing the balloons. I didn't really like this one because I felt that the light weren't bright enough so I started another one. This one was on canvas with acrylic I was hoping it would give the lights a brighter look. With this one I wasn't able to get the detail that I wanted with the paints everything seemed to look blocky and It just wasn't working. So then last minute I decided to make another one on Bristol board. I wanted to see if I could keep the detail with the lights but also find out a way to get them brighter, so I used sharpies for the lights and the person. Then I again used the oil pens to write out the words and add small details. Then I went in with water color to fill in the dark background spaces.
None of these I really totally liked, I liked small bits of everyone yet nothing together. If I were to do this project again I would combine all aspects of each into one that looked the way I wanted it too. I did enjoy this project because it was a concept that I liked and I think it helps a good cause.
