Sustained Investigation #2

For this project I continued with my sustained investigation I wanted to use paint to show the movement but by using color. I wasn't really sure how I wanted to go about this image but I was determined to focus on one image and work with that one page. I began by painting over a background color, I wanted to do this so I could practice using the background colors to enhance the color of the image, but not having a white background. After I had the background blue color I wanted to use brighter colors to create a horse head, I began this by using white paint to just get the outline of the head.

Once I had the outline of the head I moved onto adding color, I wanted the background color to bleed in a little and help make the image pop. This image is made of a ton of layers of paint, I kept changing my plan and shape of the head, which meant I had to paint over pieces of it many times. I used layers and layers of paint to make the head all fit together. Once I was done with that I went in with a darker color and and added some details to draw the viewers eyes to parts of the head. Then I went in a made the eye, for this I wanted to use purple because using black makes the image look flat so I used the color purple to help it add some depth. Once that was done I wanted to add some reflection to the eyes to make it seem more real. So I went in with some white and then moved all around the face adding some white dots because I thought they added more to the image.

Overall I like this image, I don't think it is the best I could have done just because it took me so many tries to get it right. But I like the way all the colors blend together and how the piece fits on the page. If I were to do this image again I think that I would set it up differently so that the eye isn't in the middle of the page.
