Competition Design

Over the past few classes we have been working on pieces of art for different competitions, such as Doodle for Google and The Organ and Tissue Donation. The first art competitions that was introduced and worked on was Doodle for Google, this was by using the prompt "when I grow up, I hope..." we had to create an image that incorporated the Google logo and visually showed what we hoped when we grow up.

I went with the idea of preserving the earth. I used fine point pens and the idea of pointillism in my project. I started with the letters, each letter represents something in nature that is being destroyed by humans but it is shown untouched and alive, below the problems facing the world's climate are illustrated below. After finishing that I wanted to somehow show that I hope that we can overcome these issues to help preserve the earth, so I went around all the bad things and fade them in, the idea being that we can work to rise above those issues and preserve what we already have.

The second competition we had was the Organ and Tissue Donation. For this project we had to create an image that brought awareness to what donations organs and tissue can to do, to help bring awareness to the idea of donation. I wanted to make my poster have somewhat of a cartoon look to it, so I came up with the slogan "Let your organs keep on livin' with organ and tissue donations" the idea being that by donating an organ you can keep on living and save a life. I then went in and added things like "be a hero" and "save a life". I created this by using fine point pens and the idea of pointillism, to lighten the mood I designed to go along with the "keep on living" idea and added party hats. To finish off this project I went in with water color to complete the background, it added a nice subtle background. Overall I enjoyed these projects, they were short and fun, if I were to do either of these projects again I think I would keep my ideas just edit and fine tune them to make them fit better on the page in relation to the other things.
