The FOCH Virtual Blue Plaque Scheme

As a rule with blue plaques, there's an actual plaque and an actual building that it's attached to. That's all very well when the building of significance still exists, but one of the problems we have in North East Lincolnshire is that many of our old and fondly remembered buildings are long gone, demolished in the name of progress during the 1960s and 70s, and replaced by architecturally-challenged inferior constructions.

There's also the issue of having a person who deserves to be recognised for what they have achieved during their lifetime, but there not being a particular building with which they have a significant connection.Or maybe a building does exist but the present owner doesn't fancy the prospect of having sightseers trampling his garden whilst trying to get a closer look at the blue millstone round his neck.

This is where our virtual blue plaque scheme comes in. No building required, no permission needed and an online plaque that can be seen by anybody, wherever they are in the world. Freddie Frinton is the first person to be remembered by our scheme, but if you would like to nominate a person or building to be virtually remembered, please email us at friendsofcleethorpesheritage@gmail.com
