We Will Remember Them

Last month we began to publish the biographies of the men and women who are buried in the Second World War military graves at Cleethorpes Cemetery.

The Grimsby Telegraph published a two page spread of what at the time were quite brief biographies of each person and we  were hoping that people who knew them might come forward with additional information.

To be honest, we haven't exactly been inundated with new material, so instead we've gone back and begun to re-investigate each person in more depth. We've found a number of new sources of information, particularly of the military variety, and as a result, the biographies are becoming more detailed. We've unearthed some fascinating and, in many cases, heartrending stories that have really helped to bring the dead back to life.

In addition to the original 49 graves in section GG that were researched, we also went back and found another 32 in other sections of the cemetery (featured on our We Will Remember Them Part 2 page). In the run-up to Armed Forces Day, we are publishing an extended biography a day on our Facebook page and updating our We Will Remember Them website pages as we go, so please keep checking for new information.
