Occupation (1939): Railway Clerk (living at 50 Mill Road, Cleethorpes with his grandmother)

The 1939 register shows that Jack had already joined the RAFVR before the war broke out

Jack was piloting Miles Master I N7445 at the time of his death. The Miles Master was a 2-seat monoplane advanced trainer built by Miles Aircraft Ltd for the Royal Air Force and Fleet Air Arm.

Tarmac Papers 1999 describes the crash in which he died:

“On 28th May, a dull day with mizzle and low cloud, Master N7445 crashed at Overton-on-Dee, whilst in circuit around the Borras RLG (Relief Landing Ground). Air Ministry accident and movement cards simply state that it stalled and spun in, but local records suggest that N7445 met its demise when another, as yet unidentified plane, entered the circuit in cloud, touched the Master and sent it spinning to the ground where it caught fire.”
