Cleethorpes and Humberston in the First World War

Between 2008 and 2011, the Cleethorpes Chronicle published a number of articles by Dr Alan Dowling about Cleethorpes and Humberston in the First World War and Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage are delighted that Alan has given us permission to re-publish them on our website.
The articles tell of the Zeppelin raid on the Baptist Church, the construction of the Humber forts, the ill-treatment of a conscientious objector, what life was like for local people in prison camps in Holland and Germany and how the war impacted on Cleethorpes from its outbreak to the end of hostilities and beyond.
