The Benvolio was requisitioned by the Royal Navy as a mine-sweeper from September 1939 and given the number FY721. Previously it had been H347 (pictured), then briefly GY183 before the Admiralty requisitioned it.
On 24/02/1940 it was lost after detonating a mine eight miles north-east of Spurn Head, along with 10 crew members. The other crew members were:
