Victorian Tea Party - 10th September 2011

This was Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage's first event of 2011 and what a fantastic day it turned out to be!

It is now a week on since we held our Victorian Tea Party on the 10th of September; and what a day it was. Although it was our first event it really was a fabulous day. As you will see from the photographs below; everyone had such a fun time. We covered just a part of Cleethorpes Heritage, showing photographs and newspaper clippings of the Beached Whale, the Stocks which were displayed on the Kingsway, the Grafton College, the Oyster trade and of course William Morris wallpaper. The stories behind these happenings are really interesting and we managed to print the newspaper coverings from the time of those events.

It all began when we were informed by a member of our group that the Baptist Church on Alexandra Road, Cleethorpes, needed help as their roof was badly damaged and the inside of the Manchester Chapel needed clearing. We managed to organise the repairs to the roof by the roofers giving their time for free and the materials were donated. The probation service very kindly came along and cleared the Manchester Chapel. We were then able to clean the church hall etc from the mess left by water damage and in return the church allowed us the use of the church hall to hold our Victorian Tea Party. The date for this was decided upon, as within the next 5 weeks is was to be Heritage Open Days.

As you can imagine, time being very short we had to work extremely hard to pull everything together. With the kindness and generosity from all the people we phoned, we made it. I must just add that everyone we contacted and asked if we could either borrow from them or could they spare us some time, with hesitation, agreed to help. Proving that a community working together really succeeds.

Here are some pictures taken on the day, a big thank you to everyone that was involved and contributed towards a really successful event:
