Luttrell Psalter - 23rd June 2012

Post date: Jan 30, 2013 10:1:15 PM

Saturday the 23rd June was always going to be a day full of events in Cleethorpes; with the Scooter Rally, Armed Forces Day and then the Luttrell Psalter FoCH event. Would people come along to see and hear about the Luttrell Psalter.? Would people want a complete change from our usual type of event and would the weather be kind?

The answers to two out of three of these questions was a very positive "Yes!".

We opened a little early with the weather was being so 'Wet' and found people coming along straight away, with smiles on their faces as they were greeted by members of our group dressed as 14th Century peasants. Such lovely comments being passed by all our visitors, who hadn't expected to be taken back to Lincolnshire in the 14th Century in such a positive way. Dressing the part is not only great fun for all of us, but our audience as well. Such a nice comment by one of our visitors was, 'Dressing in this way makes me feel I am transported back in time and takes a talk like this to

another level'.To us, it makes all the effort worthwhile.Prof. Michelle Brown gave an excellent slide show and talk on the beautiful illustrations in this Lincolnshire manuscript and afterwards answered many questions, to the delight of us all.

Servings of Tea, Coffee and home made cakes [something that we are now proudly renowned for] were again so popular, definitely something that we will continue to serve at all our events.

As you will see from the photographs, the event was such an enormous success that we have arranged for Prof. Brown to return to Cleethorpes in the Spring of 2013, to give a presentation and share her expertise another popular subject.

Details of this event will be announced as soon as we can arrange a definite date. Please be sure to keep checking the site for more information!
