History Bus A Wheel Success!

Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage’s first History Bus on Saturday 17th August proved to be a great success, with everyone really enjoying the day.

A full bus arrived at Irnham Church and was greeted by Sir Simon Benton Jones, who gave us a marvellous talk and insight into the history of the village, church and the Luttrell Psalter, explaining the meaning of the wonderful drawings in the book, a copy of which is on display in the church.

From there, we walked the 100 yards to the Griffin Inn, where once again a warm welcome was extended to us and home-made delights were served.

Then it was back on the bus for the half hour journey to Ayscoughfee Hall, where we were greeted by music and songs and the most fantastic displays of army life from the 1940s. We were free to wander the hall and gardens, which were a delight.

All in all, this was a wonderful trip through 600 years of history, by which only the impossible to please could fail to be satisfied.

We would like to thank Millman’s coaches and their driver for the comfort and courtesy they extended to us - nothing was too much trouble.

Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage are planning another trip next year, which will explore other aspects of Lincolnshire's wonderful history. Keep watching our website for details of this and other future events.
