During 1940 and 1941, RAF Westenhanger at Folkstone Racecourse was used as a decoy airfield, complete with inflatable aircraft set up along the racecourse to make it look like an active airfield. It was at the heart of Hellfire Corner, so named due to the battering it received during the Battle of Britain.
