Opening of the New Dock 1879

Going through some more of the folders containing the Betty Watkinson archives recently, we came across these documents relating to the opening of the new Union Dock and the unveiling of the statue of the late Prince Consort, which originally stood in Prince Albert Gardens before being moved to its present location in front of the ABP dock offices.

Still in an envelope postmarked July 1879 and addressed to Mr Councillor R Barnaby, the documents include the programme of events for the visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales on 22nd July 1879, a certificate to mark the occasion, a ticket to admit the bearer to stand overlooking the garden enclosure for the unveiling of the statue and a one penny programme printed by F. Jackson of Victoria Street.
