Celebrating Freddie Frinton

A new Facebook page has been set up to celebrate the local comedian, musical hall artist, film and television actor Freddie Frinton.

Born Frederick Bittiner Coo in 1909 in Grimsby, Freddie is today better known abroad for his comedy sketch "Dinner For One", which is shown on television in Germany and other countries every new year. However  there was much more to Freddie than "Dinner For One" and he had a long and successful career, which began in local pubs and clubs and saw him perform on Cleethorpes beach with Jimmy Slater's Super Follies in the mid-1930s. He went on to perform all over the country in variety shows and was a formidable pantomime dame. There were also appearances in films and on TV, most notably with Thora Hird in the comedy series Meet The Wife. Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage is currently working with other organisations to permanently mark Freddie's achievements in the world of entertainment and this new page is a first step.
