Teachers, please be on the lookout for students demonstrating Respect. Sign the bottom of the planner with an early to lunch note!
Teachers please see the community circle lesson for this week in your shared PBIS drive.
If you have LOP make sure you report to the LOP Lunch area immediately at the end of Advisory. Do not get lunch or go see your friends. You will be allowed to eat in LOP.
Please note that "I forgot" or "They didn't come and get me" are not excuses and will result in more LOPs or greater consequences. Thank you for being responsible and reporting to LOP when assigned.

Thank you for all who played. We hope you enjoyed it. A special thank you for students who were good sports and encouraged good sportsmanship in others. We saw great examples of students encouraging each other, being honest about a call even when it went against their team, and winning and losing with grace.
Congrats to the student winners, team 6 and for a well fought battle yesterday. You can also join us for a slice of Pizza tomorrow in S4.
XC team had a meet last night. Our very own Chris G got 1st place. It was very exciting!
Today 7th and 8th graders participated in a powerful assembly about Rachel Joy Scott. Rachel was one of the victims of the Columbine school shooting 20 years ago, when 2 students shot and killed 12 people and injured 24 others. But Rachel is known for much more than being a victim. In fact, in her short 17 years of life, Rachel was a huge advocate and supporter of KINDNESS and COMPASSION toward others.
6th grade, watch this short video on who Rachel was (2 min, about her character)

As Rachel believed, individually we all can make a difference in the world. We can start a chain reaction....one kind thing can lead to another.
School violence is preventable, but it takes all of us making sure we are making positive choices with our words and actions.
Threats of violence are taken very seriously at school. Sometimes students say "I was just joking" but this is not a topic to joke about. Threats of violence or harm against the school, staff, or students are illegal. School Police and SDPD investigate and take action against these threats. Students across the country have been arrested for merely joking or saying they wanted to show violence against a school or the occupants of it. Please do not make these types of threats. If you need help with a situation please tell a teacher, counselor, admin or other adult.
School violence is often caused by individuals who have been bullied or picked on by others. Often times students see violence as the only way out of their pain. However, WE all can work together to prevent that pain in the first place. As Rachel said, "I HAVE THIS THEORY THAT IF ONE PERSON CAN GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO SHOW COMPASSION, THEN IT WILL START A CHAIN REACTION OF THE SAME. PEOPLE WILL NEVER KNOW HOW FAR A LITTLE KINDNESS CAN GO. "
False reports of threats and bullying only take away time from staff and police, as each one of these has to be investigated. False reporting of bullying and threats is also illegal. If you are really in trouble and feel you are a victim of bullying, harassment or violence, please talk to an adult immediately.
A quick review, what is bullying and what is conflict or being mean....
The Rachel's Challenge presentation may have brought up different thoughts and feelings for some of you. Take a few moments to circle up and reflect on the presentation.
Suggestions for questions:
Share a thought or feeling you had about the presentation?
What was one thing that inspired you or that you took away from the Rachel's Challenge Assembly?
How can you start a chain reaction with kindness and compassion?
Of the five challenges put forth (Look for the Best in Others; Dream Big; Choose Positive Influences; Speak with Kindness; Start your own Chain Reaction), which one do you think you will try to do and why?
Circle up and share the following questions
What does it mean to start a chain reaction of kindness?
What does it mean to not show prejudice and to look for the best in others?
Why do you think it's important to choose positive influences in your life?
Early to lunch for students who have signature for the week for respect!
