Teachers, please be on the lookout for students demonstrating Courage. Sign the bottom of the planner with an early to lunch note for Monday next week!
Lately some students have been having a difficult time acting appropriately and respectfully at lunch. Lunch is for eating and socializing with your friends. Lunch is allowing your body and mind time to rest. Lunch is for working on teamwork and practicing a skill, like soccer or basketball. Lunch is for enjoying the iMiddle environment, a school that is for everyone, and is everyone's responsibility to keep it looking nice and feeling safe.
Lunch is NOT for
Running or Chasing each other
Making threats against each other
Fighting other students
Throwing things at one another or on the ground
Circling up and walking around in an intimidating way
Using vulgar or disrespectful language
Spreading rumors or gossiping
With this in mind we are instituting new boundaries today at lunch. Students who have received a 3.5 GPA or above on Progress Report 1 will receive a special lunch time pass today during advisory. Save this pass and put it somewhere safe. This pass will allow you to eat in the library quad area with other students who have 3.5 and above GPAs. You will be allowed on the benches and tables between the library and science and on the benches along the DHH and Math buildings.
All other students may eat in the lunch court or along the south side of Rooms 10-12. The courts and fields will still be open for play 10 min after the lunch bell. Food and drink are NOT permitted on the courts. No students will be allowed on the dirt area under the big tree between DHH and Rooms 7-9. Students will also not be allowed on the stairs during lunch.
"There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. " -J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Well there are many ways in which you can show courage throughout your day, and some that we will talk more in depth about over the course of the week.
Teens show courage by resisting peer pressure, by standing up for those that are being bullied, or by making a choice that is right in spite of being the only one who is willing to speak up.
Take a look at this video clip (be signed in to sandi.net)
Based on the letters about a peaceful school you wrote last week, and thinking about what is the best way to show courage on the iMiddle campus, discuss with your table and then class 3 ways you are willing to show courage this week.
