Upon return from Spring Break, many teachers and classrooms will have moved. Your teachers will be prepping you this week as to where you will go for class on Monday April 2. With the English and History classes moving to the new building, all of you will get to experience the new classrooms at some point in your day. With that said, there are some basic rules we need to review before April 2.
Stairs: This may seem simple enough, but many students have not had the opportunity to walk up and down public stairs in a big crowd before. So let's talk about how this works.
Keep to the RIGHT side of the stairs
Be Respectful on the stairs: this means no pushing, shoving, leaning on others, tripping others or knocking anyone down.
If you drop something on the stairs, pick it up so that it doesn't become a safety hazard
Food: Absolutely NO FOOD or Drink will be allowed in the new classrooms, lockerrooms, hallways, etc in the new building. This includes, but is not limited to, school breakfast and lunch, snacks from home, chips, monster drinks, sodas, lollipops, candy, chips, takis, hot cheetos, and once again chips!! Yes I know I repeated that, but that's how serious we are. You may bring water in a water bottle that seals. That's it. All food and drink must remain in the lunch arbor and lunch eating areas.
Gum: Absolutely NO GUM will be allowed anywhere on campus. Do not bring it to school. Do not chew it at school.
Doors and Hallways: The hallways are enclosed, which means that you need to be aware of doors that will be opening to avoid getting hurt. Do not walk along side the wall where a door is. As you are walking the hallways, just like with stairs, stay to the right side of the hallway. This will help avoid collisions with other individuals.
Elevator: Yes we have an elevator in the new building. NO, you may NOT use it. Elevator is for students in a wheelchair and adults only. Elevator is not for student in a wheelchair and his/her 5 friends. It is for the student only. Other exceptions may be made by admin/nurse for students on crutches or with a medical condition on a case by case basis only.
Trash: The beauty of a new building is that it is new. New carpet, paint, floors, desks....everything. Let's keep it nice and new for as long as we can. If you have kleenex, papers, broken pencils, etc, please throw them in a trash can. The floors, hallways and desks are not a place to put your trash.
Let's take a Quiz: True or False
It is OK to eat in the new building?
I can chew gum on campus?
I can bring water in the new building as long as it comes in a container that closes?
When walking down the stairs, I should stay to my right?
When walking up the stairs I should push people out of my way?
I should walk closely along the walls of the hallway so a door can hit me in the face?
I should throw all my trash away in the proper place, which means not on the floor or leaving it in or on a desk?
It is ok to use the elevator with my friends?
Students who took this quiz seriously and acted in a mature and respectful manner during Advisory today may go to lunch at 12:18 (5 min early)
Students:
Are you still struggling to find a Genius Hour project? Was your choice not what you thought it would be? If so consider the following:
Do you have a family member with a unique skill or trade (mechanic, plumber, cook, electrician)? You could do a "ride along" for the day or learn how to do a skill like change the oil in a car.
Did you have a school project that was fun - but you did not get as much time as you wanted? You can take a project and amp it up. We had students build a full working trebuchet last year!
Remember to DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT. Take pictures or video of you building/creating/making/practicing.
Teachers: Check in with student on the progress they are making. Go over the upcoming dates below. Spring break is a great time for students to work on their passions!
