per·se·ver·ance
noun
steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
synonyms: persistence, tenacity, determination, staying power, steadfastness, purposefulness
Perseverance is not giving up. It is persistence and tenacity, the effort required to do something and keep doing it till the end, even if it's hard.
Teachers, please be on the lookout for students demonstrating perseverance. Sign the bottom of the planner with an early to lunch note for Thursday (6/7th) or Friday (8th).
Congrats, you made it through the first grading period of P1. Today marks the beginning of P2, and we feel it is a good time to reward all those who acted like a model middle school student these last few weeks.
6th grade students who do not have ANY behavior infractions on their PAC (no dress code, cell phone, no charge, no device, and behavior) for P1 will be dismissed after attendance by your Advisory teacher. You may go to the student store (Room 12) to get a treat and enjoy your free time of Advisory period. Those with any infractions are required to stay in, and reflect on what they can do differently in P2
1. Watch the following 4 min video (make sure you are using your sandi.net account)
2. Discuss why Perseverance is important to have in middle school and beyond. Here are some guiding questions
Describe a time in your life when you worked especially hard to accomplish a goal. • Why was it important for you to keep working toward this goal? • Describe the times when you felt like giving up. • What motivated you to keep going? • Which people or events helped you? • What made it difficult for you to continue? • How did it feel to continue your work when it was difficult to do so? • How did you feel when you had accomplished your task?
3. Human Knot activity
Have students stand up and form a circle, then have the students create a “human knot.” Stand in a circle, put all hands into the center and grab another hand making sure you do not grab the person next to you. The kids will have to work together to “untie” their arms and push themselves to think creatively
Get Organized: Clean out back packs, organize 3 ring binders (no loose papers).
