PBIS Theme this week: Diligent

Doing something diligently means doing it thoroughly and well. It's the opposite of doing it lazily or shoddily. If you are tireless, persevering, and do things with great care, then you do things diligently. This is an adverb that goes with hard and careful work.

Diligent: constant in effort to accomplish something; attentive and persistent in doing anything: a diligent student. https://www.dictionary.com/browse/diligent

Principal’s Announcements

Happy Monday!!!

From Ms. Labas:

On Friday we had to close down lunch due to behavioral issues with some students. There are some expectations that need to be followed by all students. Failure to follow our expectations will result in a LOP- Loss of Privilege- during lunchtime and possible suspension from school.

Students who are helping out and modeling the expected behavior will receive skyhawk cards during lunchtime. We lunchtime to be a safe place. You all are expected to follow the lunchtime rules and procedures.

Expectations:

  1. ALL students are expected to pick up after themselves. Leaving trash around or throwing trash is not tolerated. Smile :) You are on camera...
  2. Groups of students together or circling up with friends is not tolerated. There has been an increase of students who circle up and also an increase of students following after each other causing disruptions around the lunch area. If you wish to visit with your friends, you may sit in the lunch area or play on the back courts. If we need to remind the same groups of students to not circle up, the entire group will receive an LOP.
  3. Sometimes there are conflicts with other students during lunchtime. If you are having a conflict that you do not know how to resolve, you may see a staff member or counselor for help. Causing continuous drama during lunchtime will result in consequences.
  4. There is no food or drinks permitted on the back courts.
  5. Classrooms are closed during lunchtime and food is not permitted in the classrooms.
  6. Do not share your lunch PIN with anyone.
  7. Hands and feet are not permitted on ANYONE. This includes shoving, patting, hitting.
  8. All staff members will be treated with respect at iMiddle. If a staff member is talking to your or requesting something of you, you must follow their direction. We have over 70 staff members here at iMiddle and all of them deserve the same respect. Failure to follow a staff member’s directions will result in an immediate consequence.
  9. Running around during lunch is not permitted. You must walk at all times unless you are playing on the back courts.
  10. Act like Middle School students. You are not in Elementary school anymore!

Lunchtime is a time for you to eat, relax and get your energy out. We need to make sure everyone is safe,

We hope to bring back fun fridays when all iMiddle students act appropriately. If you notice something that is unsafe please report this to a staff member.

We are in need of a lunchtime expectation Video.

Challenge to advisory students: Create a lunchtime video that will teach the iMiddle students how to behave- Like the Do’s and Don’ts.

I will give a Pizza party to you and your friends if your video is selected. The video must include the above procedures. Watch this sample video as an example of what your video could include- this one is for younger students.

Reflective Learning:

Take out your planner. For the next few minutes write down what topic you have learned (in a few words) in each subject area so far today. For the next week, make this a daily habit. At the beginning of each advisory period, write down the topics from period 6 and 7 from the previous day and periods 1-4. Next Tuesday we will learn more about this reflective process and why it is important.

Grade Review:

Last week you completed a grade review doc. If you could prove that you fixed up your assignment to your advisory teacher, or if you had no assignments to "fix up", you have earned an early lunch dismissal!

Please open PowerSchool. Students, please open this FORM, and fill it out in order to be dismissed to lunch today (it is your exit ticket). DO NOT submit the form until your advisory teacher can cross reference your answers with your PowerSchool grade screen.

When you fix up your assignment, have your content teacher verify it by signing your planner, or if you have no assignments to be "fixed up" you can earn a signature toward early lunch dismissal by having your advisory teacher sign your planner after looking at your grade screen.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER:

Power of Positive Thinking!

Do you know what Self-Talk is??

Its the inner voice we all have. It says the things we don't say out loud. Our inner voice can be directed at ourselves, or others. How we talk to ourselves is very important and can really affect how we approach different situations, especially our performance on different tasks.

Watch this video and see how the both the positive and negative environments affected the person trying to shoot the basketball.

What do you think the girl was saying to herself when everyone was cheering her on?? Was her inner voice positive or negative??

What about the man though... He had the skills to make the shots, but what happened when he was getting the negative support? What do you think was going on in his head?

How many times have you gone into a test and you already told yourself you were going to do poorly?? How well did you do on that test?

The way we speak to ourselves, and the positive encouragement we give ourselves, can have a HUGE impact on how well we do!!! Try it out next time you have a test, or homework, or a game that you find difficult and see how you do! Test out this theory and speak positively to yourself!!
