Students used Social Media for positive change when they created a YouTube channel to read aloud picture books for elementary students to access.
This learning experience was created for a multitude of reasons. "I wanted to help increase the reading fluency of middle school students and increase the interest in reading in emerging readers," said teacher Matt Jones.
This experience is also a first step into students realizing that their voice has a purpose and affects others.
"Before the project, I knew things like bold text & keeping color themes. During the project, I learned how brands have both vision & mission statements. I also learned that I like doing animation." - Lilieth Torres-Gonzalez, Grade 7
"The two skills developed are character and communication. Requiring them to speak clearly, with volume and articulation, while keeping to a deadline forces them to be accountable with courage and perseverance. " - Matt Jones, ELA and Creative Communications teacher
