Sol Standard:
HC.2a: I can explain how the geography of Henrico County had a major impact on its history.

The Henrico History Project offers a rich learning experience by immersing students in local history and encouraging them to develop critical content knowledge through research and analysis. By selecting a person, place, or event from Henrico's history, students engage deeply with their chosen topic, justifying their choice and explaining its impact on the county. This process enhances their understanding of historical context and its relevance to the present.
Our 5th-grade students focused on developing the lifelong skill of Creative Thinking.
Creative thinking involves generating ideas, learning from challenges, and exploring possibilities. Students created their final products using tools like Book Creator, Canva, Adobe Express, Google Slides, and Minecraft. They then presented these engaging creations to the class, showcasing their enhanced creative learning skills and innovative approaches.
In addition to honing their creative thinking, students also learned essential skills such as research and collaboration. They then showcased their creativity by finding innovative ways to teach their classmates about their chosen topic. This combination of research, analysis, and presentation empowered students to become informed historians and effective communicators.
I found a really awesome place in Henrico and learned a ton about it! I used my curiosity and creative thinking to make a cool presentation for my class. It was super fun to research and discover all the interesting facts. Sometimes it was a little tricky, but I didn't give up!

The teacher-ILC collaboration positively impacted students by enhancing their critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Our goals were to make the project more fun and engaging, teach creative thinking, and empower students to make their own decisions on their final products.
It was a successful collaboration!
