This collaborative lesson, where students create an app prototype using Canva, is a multifaceted learning experience that promotes critical content knowledge, skill development, and self-reflection. By designing an app that highlights good habits and positive attitudes (Habitudes), students engage deeply with the content, learning to identify and describe various Habitudes and their importance. This project requires them to use Canva's features, such as templates, text, images, and design elements, thereby enhancing their technical skills and creativity.
In addition to content knowledge, the project fosters the development of Henrico Learner Profile (HLP) skills. Students practice collaboration by working with counselors and peers, communication through presenting their ideas, critical thinking by designing an app that effectively conveys positive messages, and creative thinking by using their imagination to solve problems and make the app. The hands-on nature of the project allows students to apply these skills in a practical context, making the learning experience more meaningful and engaging.
Today we learned about courage and how to be courageous. I used the HLP skill communication. You need to communicate so people can understand me. I communicated ways to use courage at home, school and in my community.

This project helped students develop an understanding of character traits necessary for life-long learning and skills needed now and that they will continue to use.
