Grade Level -Third Grade
SOL/Standard - 3.MG.4: Identify, describe, compare, and analyze polygons (with three or more sides) based on their attributes.
3.MG.2 Determine perimeter and area in practical situations.
3.PFA.1: Create, analyze, and solve problems involving geometric shapes and models.
Third-grade students took their geometry skills to the next level by designing and constructing 3D models of their dream school! Using Google Drawings, they created blueprints of learning spaces, then collaborated with architects to refine their designs. With teamwork and creativity, they built detailed replicas, ensuring every element fit together seamlessly. This hands-on project strengthened their spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, key attributes of the Henrico Learner Profile. To top it off, students showcased their work through green screen videos, proudly sharing their designs and learning journey in an engaging and innovative way!
"I used to not ever like to talk to people. I thought my ideas were better than everyone’s. And with this project I realized that through communication and collaboration, we were able to come up with better ideas."
Wesly, Third Grader
"Watching my students bring their ideas to life—collaborating, problem-solving, and confidently sharing their learning—was truly inspiring and showed me the power of hands-on, real-world experiences."
