5.C.2 Speaking and Presentation of Ideas
- Report orally on a topic or text or present an opinion in an organized manner. This includes:
-Demonstrating appropriate speaking techniques (e.g., adequate volume and clear pronunciation) suitable to the audience, purpose, and situations.
-Encouraging audience participation through planned interactions (e.g., questioning, discussion, gathering responses, and movement).
Students in grades K-5 were all included in this project. They were tasked to think of ways that would cheer up a friend or help calm someone down. Students in grades 3-5 went through the steps of podcasting. They put their writing skills to the test to create a script for their podcast. Then they used their communication skills to record their podcasts. This allowed them to use the HPL Skills of communication and collaboration while modeling good character.
“This project is like a community because we got to meet new people and work with them. We learned how to be a better person and speak positively.” -Zion
"We made new friends in different grades. They older kids helped us. "- Jordyn
Students were able to see both teacher and coach working on the project at different times. They saw our collaboration through lessons in the library and in their innovation lessons. This showed the impact of the project and how important it was for our school. Working together allowed students to build on their work, taking their script writing in one lesson to the recording aspect in another.
2nd grade students recording positive affirmations
1st grade students listening to our positive affirmations
5th grade students recording their first podcast episode
