SOL/Standard - VA Studies | A New Nation VS 6 part c
The student will demonstrate an understanding of the role of Virginia in the establishment of the new American nation by
c) explaining the influence of geography and technological advances on the migration of Virginians into other states and western territories in the first half of the 1800s.
To deepen their understanding of Virginia’s pivotal role in the formation of the new American nation, students worked together to craft a series of thought-provoking questions and challenges that represented the obstacles faced by early Virginians. Through collaboration, they developed their ability to express their ideas while integrating their teammates' perspectives. These questions and challenges were then used to design an interactive game, where players, using Sphero Indi cars, must unlock the code to navigate through the complexities of the Western Expansion."
" We have been working really hard together and have gotten along well. If someone got upset, we would talk it through and help them. I think my favorite part was making the cards together and that we all had fun together." - Saxton C.
Throughout this project, students learned valuable lessons into true collaboration. They were grouped with peers they may not have previously chosen to work with, which pushed them out of their comfort zones. Many discovered the importance of teamwork and supporting one another, even in challenging situations. -Katelyn Perkins
