I can describe how the contributions of Helen Keller changed American lives.
DLI Standard (Knowledge Constructor and Innovative Designer)
KC.D: Students explore and discuss real-world issues and problems and share their ideas about them with others
ID.A: With guidance from an educator, students use appropriate digital and nondigital technologies to ask questions, suggest solutions, test ideas to solve problems, and share their learning through a creative artifact
Our second-grade students were inspired by Helen Keller's achievements, particularly her use of Braille and sign language, despite being blind, deaf, and mute. They admired how Keller made a significant impact on the world and wanted to create inventions that would similarly help people with disabilities. The students researched various disabilities and brainstormed ideas for useful inventions. Using Adobe's image generation feature, they created posters explaining their inventions and modeled prototypes with clay. They compared their clay models to AI-generated images to see their ideas come to life. In their presentation, they depicted Keller touching a robot to symbolize the evolving nature of learning and discovery through innovative methods.
Having a great teacher and the invention of sign language changed her life. Maybe our invention will change a life.

Connecting Helen Keller and innovations with knowledge of disabilities has opened their minds to problem solving and creativity.

We are working hard to create our prototypes.
This group added some finishing touches to their designs.
Here are a few completed models of our inventions.
Research is important!
