The Porters will have one more reason to cheer this fall: a favorite teacher, Ms. Salgado, is headed to the NYC Marathon on the 1st of November to help fund Team Imerman Angels. “I’m running the NYC Marathon on November 1 to raise funds for Team Imerman Angels, which offers one-on-one support by matching people affected by cancer with survivors and caregivers who understand their experience,” Salgado said. “Running for a cause that directly helps others makes this race especially meaningful.”
Salgado mentions that having to train for a marathon is very challenging physically and mentally. “My training plan includes at least three runs each week: a speed workout, an easy run, and a long run. When my schedule allows, I add a strength-training day. I follow a personalized plan using the Runna app, which adjusts to my stats and goals and has been a helpful guide,” She explained.
Ms. Salgado also credits the GPO Run Club for helping maintain consistency and morale. “I helped start the GPO Run Club with Mr. Toussaint and Ms. Tabor. We meet once a week after school to stay consistent, motivated, and accountable. Club members follow each other on Strava to track progress and celebrate milestones,” they said.
Looking to grow the club and encourage more students to try running is Salgado’s goal, and she offered a simple, inclusive message: “We’re always welcoming new runners — running is for everyone. You don’t need to be fast; you just need to start and run at your own pace.”
