Do you want to help animals? If you say yes to this simple question, then there is good news for you! The local animal shelter in Peconic wants your help! The NFAWL (North Fork Animal Welfare League) is always looking for volunteers to help out with the animals. With tasks ranging from dog walking and cat cuddling, you are destined to have a fun time with animals. The shelter is open from 9-3 daily and offers anyone an enjoyabletime with the soon to be cute cuddly pets. Along with the fun activities at the shelter, NFAWL also hosts fundraisers and other programs that help get exposure for the animals. These fundraisers include diving dogs, an event where dogs compete to see how far they can jump into water, a costume contest where animals compete to see who is the best dressed, and comedy shows (this one is only for parents sadly) to name a few. While at these events you will help raise awareness to the animals and get them exposure so that they are able to find their forever home. You may also be able to walk around these festivals with your very own pup for the day, allowing you to explore while continuing to get exposure for the animals. These events can occur across the east end, with one of the most recent being a halloween costume contest that occurred just last saturday in Southampton. While at the event, the volunteers walked the dogs around and got them exposure while earning donations to assist in bringing up new pets from kill shelters in Georgia. Another amazing perk is that sometimes these events have puppies! Being a volunteer does not require you to participate in these events however. As a volunteer, you are able to come as you please between the hours of 9-3 every day. You can socialize with cats, read with dogs, walk dogs, and so much more! There are many wonderful opportunities with the North Fork Animal Welfare League to give your time and in return spend time with cute pets! If you have any interest in joining the volunteers at the shelter, please stop by whenever to fill out an application or email Sherri Campbell, the volunteer coordinator at sherricampbell@optonline.net
