The upcoming week has a lot of exciting events. It's spirit week, Monday we are off for Columbus day but Tuesday is pajama day, Wednesday is character day, Thursday is jersey day, and Friday wear your class t-shirts for spirit day. Wednesday we have the SAT for the Seniors and the PSAT for the juniors.
Last week, the school hosted a college fair in the big gym. Grades 7 to 12 went down to learn about various colleges and consider their future plans. With over 80 colleges in attendance there was a school (and major) for everyone.
On September 28th, students from Greenport and Southold NJROTC went on a field trip to Shinnecock’s Coast Guard station.
These students (primarily freshman) were able to see the facility, which will help aide them in deciding if a military career is right for them. First, the students got to see a Coast Guard helicopter up close. After speaking to the pilot, they were allowed to get inside the cockpit and see the controls.
Then it was onto the boats. A tour of the boats was given along with a Q&A. Finally, the cadets were brought inside the main building where they explored the Commanding Officer’s office and the control center for the facility.
Last week was a busy week for everyone. We had a homecoming dance on Thursday night; a mini prep rally and homecoming game on Friday; and Maritime festivities on Saturday and Sunday.
Although the Porter's did not win on Friday night, they still did a great job and a new homecoming court was crowed. Vicki Campos was Queen, Jack Owens was king.
The homecoming court was as follows:
Vicki Campos was Queen, Jack Owens was king
Lili Harbin, Bre Rivas, Jayda Hubbard, and Maddy Tonyes were Princesses
Leon, Creighton, Taiquan Bumsey , Sawyer Harbin, and Victor Cruz were Princes
Homecoming : The DJ was amazing. He was in the crowd giving the microphone to everyone. Melizza Mena-Ochoa, Deanna Brice, Angelina Brice, and Jazmine Kennedy-Wirts owned the dance floor.
