Little Nightmares III: Everything We Know So Far
Lexie Heidtmann
Class of 2024
Little Nightmares III was announced at Gamescom on opening night, where a 15-minute gameplay demonstration was shown. Here’s everything we know about the game so far:
Change of Development
The shift in development studios represents a change in the series’ established relationship with Tarsier. Previously Tarsier had the spotlight in development of the franchise while Supermassive Games’ involvement was lesser known; fans became nervous for this shift in development. The company has an interesting history with Tarsier Studios. Supermassive Games has previously worked on Little Nightmares I and II alongside Tarsier Studios but now has fully taken the reins on the third installment.
Supermassive Games also has a vast video game developing history; they have developed games such as Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures. These games had major success in the horror field, so fans are excited for what might come in Little Nightmares III.
No Longer Alone
A major change in the upcoming game is having the ability to play “Co-op,” or the ability to play with a friend). The last two games were not Co-op enabled, meaning the main character was either alone or with an AI companion.
Gameplay and Characters
There are two protagonists that were revealed at Gamescon: A little girl wearing a green jumpsuit and pilot’s helmet named Alone and a little boy in a bird skeleton head and a cape named Low.
Both main protagonists have their own special powers in order to work together to solve puzzles. For example, Alone has a wrench to break blocked off areas as well as power up ancient machines. Low has a bow to attack evil enemies and it can also be used to activate contraptions.
The game takes place in The Spiral, which is a “cluster of disturbing places.” As shown in the game review at Gamescon, the scene takes place in a desert named “The Necropolis.” Microsoft explains it as, “A giant ruin overflowing with windmills, sails and other wind-powered mechanisms that continue to turn under their own power. The Necropolis is said to be a city of eternal energy, but also of certain death… its original inhabitants, the Dwellers, are no more.”
The first real threat that we know of is Monster Baby, a humanoid doll causing danger to the players. It is known that Monster Baby possesses immense strength and has the ability to turn her victims to stone with her petrifying light gaze.
A Release Date
The game is expected to release some time in 2024 and we are excited to see what SuperMassive games has in store for us. Get ready to experience your worst nightmares!
